In recent years, the Spotify custom glass frame has taken the DIY world by storm, turning into one of the most popular personalized gifts and room decor trends. This project mimics the sleek look of the Spotify music player app on a clear pane of glass or acrylic, showcasing a favorite song, album artwork, and a scannable Spotify code.
Whether you want to commemorate a wedding song, celebrate an anniversary, or simply display your current favorite track, making one at home is highly customizable and budget-friendly. Here is a complete guide to crafting your own Spotify custom glass frame from scratch.
Materials and Tools Needed
Before starting, gather the following supplies. Most of these can be found at local craft stores or ordered online:
Glass or Acrylic Pane: An 8×10 inch size is standard and easy to work with. You can use the glass right out of a cheap photo frame or buy pre-cut acrylic sheets.
Album Artwork: A high-quality print of the album cover or a personal photo, sized to about 4×4 inches.
Vinyl or Paint Pens: Permanent vinyl cut with a machine (like a Cricut) gives the cleanest results. If you prefer to hand-letter, fine-tip white paint pens work beautifully. A Transfer Tape: Essential if you are using cut vinyl.
Super Glue or Double-Sided Tape: To secure the photo to the glass.
Rubbing Alcohol and a Microfiber Cloth: For cleaning the surface.
Step 1: Design Your Layout
First, decide exactly how you want your frame to look. Open your Spotify app, search for your chosen song, and take a screenshot of the player screen. This will serve as your visual reference.
If you are using a vinyl cutting machine, upload a template to your design software. You will need to create text boxes for the song title and artist name, along with the playback bar icons (shuffle, rewind, play, fast-forward, and repeat).
To include a functional Spotify Code, visit the Spotify Codes website, paste the song’s share link, and download the high-resolution wave code image. Clean it up in your design software so it can be cut or traced easily.
Step 2: Prep the Canvas
Cleanliness is crucial for this project. Fingerprints and dust trapped beneath vinyl or photos will ruin the sleek aesthetic. Wipe both sides of your glass or acrylic pane thoroughly with rubbing alcohol and let it dry completely. From this point on, try to handle the glass only by its edges.
Step 3: Apply the Music Player Details
If you are using a vinyl cutter, weed your cut design and apply transfer tape over the letters and playback symbols. Carefully align the vinyl onto the front of the glass. Press down firmly with a scraper or credit card, then slowly peel away the transfer tape at a sharp angle.
If you are hand-lettering with paint pens, print out your digital design layout on a standard piece of paper first. Tape this paper to the back of the glass. Because the glass is transparent, you can easily trace the text, playback icons, and the Spotify code perfectly using your white paint pen on the front surface. Let the paint dry completely before touching it.
Step 4: Attach the Artwork
Take your printed 4×4 inch photo or album cover. Turn your glass frame over so you are looking at the backside. Place a small amount of clear double-sided tape or a tiny dot of glue on the top corners of the front side of the photo.
Carefully press the photo onto the back of the glass, aligning it perfectly with the design you laid out on the front. Mirroring it from the back ensures the photo sits flush behind the glass, giving it depth and protecting the print from scratches.
Step 5: The Finishing Touches
Flip the frame back around to admire your work. Test the Spotify code by opening the search tab in the Spotify app, tapping the camera icon, and pointing it at your frame. If it instantly pulls up your song, your project is a success.
You can display your finished piece by placing it back into a traditional frame without the backing board, resting it on a mini wooden easel, or sliding it into a lighted LED wood base for an elegant nightlight effect. If you are planning to make this, tell me:
