Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock has outlived its official release thanks to a passionate community creating custom songs, or “customs.” By using fan-made software, players can add any audio file to the game and manually chart their own note patterns. This innovation led to hyper-difficult tracks that pushed human skill limits and ultimately helped inspire the creation of standalone successors like Clone Hero.
