Mariah Carey’s 1994 classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You” is a global holiday phenomenon that prioritizes true companionship over material wealth. The song’s lyrics reject traditional holiday tropes like presents under the tree, stockings, and Santa Claus in favor of a singular focus on being with a loved one. By wrapping this heartfelt message of yearning in an energetic, upbeat Motown-inspired melody, Carey captures the universal desire for human connection during the winter season.
